Licking and working for food are natural behaviours for dogs. They encourage focus, slow things down, and make mealtimes more satisfying.

The lick mat creates a calm, focused activity — useful before guests arrive, during a work call, or as part of an evening wind-down. The slow feeder extends mealtime, which may reduce gulping, restlessness after eating, and food-seeking behaviour.

Lick mat — spread with a soft food your dog already knows. Yoghurt, pumpkin purée, wet food, or xylitol-free peanut butter. Freeze for a longer session. Dishwasher safe.

Slow feeder — swap your dog's regular bowl at mealtimes. Press food lightly into the grooves. The suction base keeps it stable. Dishwasher safe.

Introduce one item at a time. Keep first sessions short. Start with familiar food.

Both items are made from food-grade silicone — the same material standard used in human kitchenware and baby products. Chosen because it has a clearer food-contact standard than vague plastic blends. No BPA or phthalate concerns at this grade.

  • One size — suitable for most dogs
  • Lick mat: textured surface, holds soft food in place
  • Slow feeder: raised ridges and grooves, suction base
  • Both dishwasher safe

Size up for strong chewers.

Chewing is one of the most natural, self-regulating behaviours for dogs. The coffee wood gives them something dense and satisfying to gnaw on. The rubber ring is for fetch, tug, carrying, and solo play.

Rotate both to keep each one feeling interesting. Dogs engage more with items that aren't always available.

Coffee wood — offer directly and let your dog explore. Supervise early sessions. Introduce from around 4 months. Replace when small enough to swallow.

Rubber ring — introduce during an energetic moment. Use for tug or fetch to build a positive association. Store away between sessions to keep it interesting.

  • Coffee wood — upcycled from retired coffee plantation trees. No synthetic hardeners or added flavourings
  • Natural rubber ring — FSC-certified, no synthetic blends or plasticisers. Solid and durable

Size refers to the coffee wood chew. S (up to 10kg) — comes with 2 chews. M (up to 20kg) and L (up to 40kg) include 1 chew each. The rubber ring is one size. Size up for strong chewers.

Quick relief

You probably don't
need more stuff.

You probably just want:

  • Products that feel safer
  • Materials you can trust
  • Less overwhelm
  • A puppy setup that actually makes sense

That's exactly why the Sniff exists.

Why materials matter

If it goes in their mouth every day,
it's worth thinking about.

Dogs chew, lick, carry, and mouth their products constantly. But most owners are left trying to decode vague labels with very little transparency around what products are actually made from.

The Sniff takes a materials-first approach by prioritising:

  • Food-grade silicone
  • FSC-certified natural rubber
  • Upcycled coffee wood
  • Fewer unnecessary plastics

Not fear. Just higher standards.

The founder

I created the Sniff because I couldn't find what I was looking for myself.

When I brought home my puppy, I expected choosing products to feel simple. Instead I found endless shelves of plastic toys, vague labels, and no real clarity around what was actually worth buying.

So I started researching. What surprised me most was learning there are no mandatory safety standards for pet toys in Australia.

The Sniff became my attempt to create the kind of place I wish had existed when I started: fewer, better products made from materials I actually felt good about using every day.

Research and education

We look beyond the label,
so you don't have to.

We review available research around:

  • Daily-use dog product materials
  • Slow feeding and enrichment
  • Chewing behaviours
  • Scent enrichment
  • Canine wellbeing

Because daily use deserves a higher standard.
